Fintech Accessibility & Remote Verification Platform • UI/UX Case Study
An accessible third-party mobile application designed to simplify remote verification and pension tracking for elderly pensioners and their caregivers.
Project
This UI/UX design study focuses on removing physical barriers to monthly income for elderly and disabled retirees through BENSION (“Pension made simple”). By replacing required in-person bank visits with accessible remote biometric checks, scheduled home visits, and multi-language AI support, BENSION provides a dignified way for seniors to verify their identities and track their funds without leaving home.
The Brief
Design and prototype an accessible, independent third-party mobile application tailored for seniors (60+) and caregivers that replaces recurring physical bank visits with remote biometric verification, clear tracking, and multi-channel support.
What We Did
User Research & Persona Development, Empathy Mapping, Information Architecture & User Journeys, Accessibility & Visual System Design, High-Fidelity Wireframing & Prototyping.
Technology
- Design & Systems: Figma (Accessibility-Focused UI System & Component Library) ● Typography: Poppins (Headings: 32–48pt, Subheadings: 18–24pt, Body: 14–16pt) & Urdu Support (بنیاد(
- Visual Language: Soft Rounded Cards, Vibrant Green Gradient Motifs, High-Contrast Tap Elements
Goal
Eliminate the physical hardship, stress, and income gaps (up to 6 months without verification) experienced by elderly pensioners by delivering an intuitive, highly accessible verification platform.
Process
- User Research & Persona Mapping: Defined user profiles across three key roles an elderly retiree struggling with physical mobility (Mirza, 72), a working caregiver needing remote updates (Shazia, 29), and a bank operations officer seeking fraud-free efficiency (Imran, 42).
- Empathy Mapping & Pain Point Identification: Mapped emotional and physical pain points, discovering that uncoordinated in-person bank checks often lead to 2–3 month pension suspensions, severe family stress, and lost workdays for caretakers.
- Accessibility-First Design Architecture: Formulated senior-friendly UX principles: large minimum 56px touch targets for trembling hands, soft-rounded interfaces, vibrant green gradients for low-vision readability, and key actions placed front-and-center.
- Core Verification Architecture: Structured multiple remote verification channels—including on-device fingerprint scanning, posing challenges, video call verifications, scheduled home visits, and AI voice/text assistants.
- Multi-Language & Simplified Flow Mapping: Engineered a streamlined user journey featuring English and Urdu support, prominent status dashboards, direct-contact action buttons, and zero clutter (deliberately excluding transaction processing or gallery uploads).
Benefits
- Dignified Access: Saves elderly and disabled users from standing in long queues or traveling to physical bank branches.
- Uninterrupted Income: Prevents 2–3 month pension suspensions by providing convenient pre-due verification avenues.
- Caregiver Peace of Mind: Gives family members real-time updates and remote oversight without requiring time off work.
- Reduced Cognitive Friction: High-contrast visuals, minimal color schemes (Vivid Green, Mint, Dark Teal), and visual-first iconography minimize confusion for low-literacy users.
Features
- Remote Multi-Modal Verification: Offers video calls, fingerprint scanning, posing challenges, and AI agent assistance.
- Scheduled In-Person Support: Allows users or caregivers to book direct home visits when digital-only verification is not feasible.
- Accessibility-Centered Dashboard: Features large fonts, high-contrast buttons, and immediate visibility of balance, status, and upcoming verification dates.
- Multi-Lingual Interface: Native support for both English and Urdu languages to maximize accessibility across target demographics.
