GenPay
Teen Digital Banking & E-Wallet Interface Design
An interactive fintech UI/UX study exploring financial independence, parental oversight models, and simplified digital transactions for Pakistani teenagers.
Project:
This case study details the end-to-end product design of GenPay, a specialized mobile banking app and digital e-wallet created specifically for teenagers aged 13–17 in Pakistan. The project focuses on bridging the gap between youth autonomy and parental reassurance by transforming complex financial workflows into accessible, diegetic-style visual interfaces. By balancing transparent spending summaries for parents with independent control for teens, GenPay addresses real-world friction, safety risks, and digital exclusion in a rapidly transitioning cash-to-digital economy.
The Brief:
Design and prototype a cross-platform mobile digital wallet in Figma/Roblox Studio ecosystem principles tailored to Pakistani youth. The platform must enable independent minor banking under the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Teenager Banking Framework while offering customizable parental visibility without invasive surveillance.
What We Did:
Teen-Centric UI/UX Design, Dual-Persona User Journey Mapping, Guardian Control Architecture, Low-to-High Fidelity Wireframing, Systemic Design System Creation, Behavioral Empathy Mapping.
Technology & Framework
- Design Platform: Figma, Adobe XD, Interactive Mobile Prototyping Systems ● Target Regulatory Framework: State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Teenager Banking Framework (2026)
- Design System: Custom Color Palette (Peach/Purple/Mint Gradient), Poppins Typography, Minimalist Iconography, Soft Shadow & Spacing Systems
Goal
To guide teenage users toward financial literacy and independence while providing parents with peace of mind. The system replaces rigid, adult-oriented banking HUDs with friendly visual feedback, streamlined onboarding (B-Form/Smart Card verification), and goal-oriented savings tools.
Process
- Multi-Persona Research & Empathy Mapping: Developed 4 core user archetypes School-Going Teens, Freelancers, Gamers, and Social Butterflies identifying critical pain points such as payment delays, over-reliance on family accounts, and lack of spending privacy.
- Dual-Journey Information Architecture: Mapped distinct user flows for both teenagers (Send/Receive, Goals, QR Pay, Subscriptions) and Parents (Guardian Dashboard, Wallet Lock, Trusted Circle, Limits).
- Regulatory Compliance & Identity Onboarding: Engineered a friction-free KYC system enabling teenagers to register using B-Form, Smart Card, Family Registration Certificate (FRC), or Parent CNIC.
- Trust & Anti-Friction Mechanics: Implemented spending limits, automated age-inappropriate purchase blocking, instant refund/fraud protection tools, and human-led customer support chat.
- Interactive Design Systems & Wireframing: Built low-fidelity wireframes progressing to high-fidelity UI featuring soft gradients, card-based component layouts, and floating actionable chips for rapid interactions.
Benefits
- Youth Autonomy: Allows teenagers to control earnings, save for goals, split bills, and execute daily payments without asking for adult OTPs or cards.
- Parental Reassurance: Provides customized oversight (spending summaries and daily limits) rather than full, intrusive surveillance.
- Financial Literacy: Bolsters early money management skills through visually trackable savings goals and automated spending analytics.
- Scalable Market Reach: Unlocks digital financial inclusion for an estimated market of ~26 million Pakistani teens.
